Tao Receives Inaugural Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics
Congratulations to Terence Tao (UCLA), one of five recipients of the Inaugural Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics funded by Mark Zuckerberg and Yuri Milner. The prize “aims to recognize major advances in the field, honor the world’s best mathematicians, support their future endeavors and communicate the excitement of mathematics to general public.” Tao was selected for his numerous innovative contributions to harmonic analysis, combinatorics, partial differential equations and analytic number theory. Winners will be presented with trophies and $3 million at a ceremony in November. Tao is a member of IPAM’s Science Advisory Board and has been a speaker, organizer, and participant of many IPAM programs.
