In this talk, I will first review several models for region-based image segmentation formulated using the level set method and the Mumford-Shah functional. I will also present recent extensions to the multilayer case, the case of open active contours, and joint registration-segmentation. This is joint work with Tony Chan, Berta Sandberg, Ginmo Chung, Carole Le Guyader, and Hayden Schaeffer.
