Proteins, though constructed of linear polymers of amino acids, fold into complex three dimensional structures and assemble into yet more complex quaternary assemblies. Part I of the tutorial will be an overview of the principles of protein structure, providing an introduction to protein 2D and 3D structure, along with a discussion of the major classes of protein folds. Part II of the tutorial will discuss physical principles underlying protein interactions, focusing mainly on a structural view of protein interactions, introducing several of the main experimental techniques for studying interactions.
