Modelling Stellar Clusters Embedded in Gas

Matthew Bate
University of Exeter

I will discuss the challenges associated with modelling problems involving both N-body and fluid components. My main examples will concentrate on young stars embedded in molecular gas, but the challenges are also common to other areas of astrophysics such as modelling protoplanets embedded in gaseous discs. I will discuss the use of `sink particles' both in particle-based and grid-based hydrodynamics codes and future developments in these areas.
