1D models in medical simulation

Medical simulation has become an inevitable tool for future surgeon training, evaluation and pre-operation.
For a long time, medical simulation was mainly focusing on simulating organs with 3D mass-spring or FEM models.
This past 4 years have seen the emergence of works on simulating 1D model, especially for medical applications (simulation of intestines, fallopian tubes, muscles, surgical thread, catheter, …).
This talk is about these works and exposes the great step that has been done recently in this domain.
