The Oort-Hulst-Safronov coagulation equation: finite speed of propagation and self-similar solutions

A mean-field model describing the aggregation of stellar objects has been proposed in astrophysics by Oort & van de Hulst (1946) and Safronov (1972) and some properties of this equation are studied. The existence of solutions and their properties are discussed, as well as the existence of self-similar solutions in some cases. The stability of self-similar solutions is also investigated when the coagulation kernel is constant.
