Virtual Talk: Multiscale approaches to dispersion modelling

Timothy Gould

Van der Waals dispersion physics is mostly highly local and able to be treated in simple ways. However in materials with one- or two-dimension interactions can become coupled at long range. We will highlight some of the difficult physics behind this behaviour, and discuss success and limitations of mathematical techniques used to model them. Some illustrative cases will also be considered.
