Virtual Talk: Center of Mass Alignment for Noisy Tomographic Projections

Ayelet Heimowitz

Under the weak-phase object approximation, the center of mass of a 3-D macromolecule is projected to the center of mass of each of its tomographic projections. The correct identification of this point will align all projections regardless of their angle. Unfortunately, the characteristics of the noise in a micrograph render traditional methods of center of mass identification useless. In this talk, I will present a novel method for center of mass identification in noisy projection images. I will show such centering can improve the results of 2-D classification in both runtime and number of inliers
