Gene Expression Profiling of Normal Tissues

Barry Merriman
UCLA

At the UCLA Microarray Core, we are developing
a database of normal human tissue gene expression
profiles, and so far we have profiled over 50 tissues on 32,000 genes.
I will discuss how this data might be used for "validation and quality
control" of engineered tissues. In my talk, I will provide an
overview of the state-of-the-art in gene expression measurement,
including DNA microarrays and other techniques, and an overview of
our database, including comparative analysis of the tissues. I will
also describe some technical aspects of our project, related to improving
the gene expression measurements via microarray, and extending our
techniques to experimental animals near to humans, such as
baboon, green monkey, other primates, and closely related species.
