In recent years task-based programming systems have become widely used in data analytics and machine learning; some well-known examples include TensorFlow, PyTorch, Spark and Dask. This talk will describe the basics of task-based programming and its advantages for scientific workflows. Examples will be drawn from the Legion task-based programming system.
