Molecular Phylogeny: Codon and Rate Variation Models

Kenneth Lange

Classical molecular phylogeny involves the problem of inferring the evolutionary tree connecting several contemporary species
from protein or DNA sequence data. Now that the complete DNA
sequences of many organisms are known, biologists have massive data sets bearing on this issue. These data sets can also illuminate conserved regions within proteins and the likelihood that one amino acid will substitute for another. This talk will survey models and methods for inferring the course of evolution from sequence data.
