I will discuss the role of geometric variation measures in image processing and analysis. The talk will review several research projects I have been involved in during recent years: Fast marching, distance maps and minimal geodesics; Color images as surfaces and the Laplace-Beltrami framework for color image processing; Geometric-variational framework for edge detection and integration; Multidimensional scaling, texture mapping, and isometric signatures. Other applications will include volumetric medical images analysis, color processing, path planning, tracking moving objects and periodic motion interpretation.
