The Locator/ID Separation Protocol (LISP) was initially designed to address the problems of routing table growth as outlined at the IAB's Routing and Addressing Workshop (held in October 2006 [RFC4984]). Since that time, the base protocol, control plane, and interworking specifications have been refined, implemented, and deployed. This talk provides an overview of the LISP protocol, provides an update on current deployment status, and surveys a few lessons learned. Finally, we review a few novel application of the protocol that have recently come to light.
