Kinetic models for the collective behavior of fish schools

Bernt Wennberg

In recent times, there has been an increasing interest in studying swarming and flocking behavior of animals with mathematical tools. I will present kinetic models that are inspired by the so-called Vicsec model for the motion of "self propelled particles". A Boltzmann like equation based on the Vicsec model derived by Chaté et. al. In the talk I will discuss some mathematical problems related to this and a different, but similar, model: propagation of chaos and fluid limits.

The work is a collaboration with Eric Carlen and Pierre Degond.
