This talk will review recent history of advances in microwave applications of the transmission type left handed metamaterial called composite right/left handed (CRLH) structures. First, a brief explanation is given on the structure and unique electromagnetic characteristics of the CRLH structure. This will be followed by demonstration of a number of practical applications of the CRLH structures for development of microwave devices and antennas with advanced characteristics. Examples include dual band and wide band microwave passive components, leaky wave antennas, miniaturized antennas, active integrated antennas. In addition, the CRLH structures made of dielectric resonators and those made of substrate integrated waveguide will be described.
