Kinetic limits and imaging models for waves in random media

We are interested here in the localization of buried inclusions in random media. Our approach consists in replacing the original inverse problem based on a wave description by a new inverse problem based on transport models that weakly depend on the fluctuations of the medium. These models are obtained within the high-frequency regime and quantifying how weak is their dependence on the fluctuations is a crucial point for the quality of the reconstructions. We will present some configurations in which the error between the wave and kinetic descriptions can be made precise and some numerical results that validate the method. This is jointwork with G. Bal.
