Why do we have intrinsic topological order in 2+1d, but not in 1+1d? What does the reason imply in 3+1d? Is it possible to “parametrize” phases? Trying to answer these question in some scope, I will share my perspective from quantum error correction to topological order, introduce fracton models via a polynomial formalism, and explain the properties of some examples in contrast to what conventional intuition suggests.
