This talk will review the development and application of multidimensional fluorescence imaging (MDFI), with an emphasis on fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM) optimised for high-speed imaging of live cells. FLIM combined with tunable excitation sources and spectral and polarisation-resolved imaging provides opportunities to distinguish different molecular species in a multidimensional space and to probe influence of the local fluorophore environment, including molecular interactions. FLIM and MDFI also provide opportunities for label-free molecular imaging in biological tissue.
